A civilian staff position is assigned to this function which allows follow-up contact to be made with victims of domestic violence and other crimes. Immediate support can also be provided to victims of violent crime during the course of an initial investigation.

The Yarmouth Police Department offers more than prevention and enforcement. Our civilian support staff can play an important role in assisting victims and witnesses of crime through the investigative and court processes. Our civilian mental health clinician provides both co-response to mental health emergencies and post incident follow-up to connect the affected to vital services.

The compassionate and dedicated professionals in the Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office (CIDAO) Victim Witness Advocate (VWA) Unit are an integral part of the prosecution team. Advocates work with victims, witnesses, and survivors to reduce stress by providing information, support, and advocacy as cases proceed through the criminal justice system.
