The Dennis-Yarmouth Regional Schools Police Services Unit is a joint multi-jurisdictional detachment of the Yarmouth Police and Dennis Police departments. Our four full-time certified school resource officers provide the full spectrum of police services to the district's five schools and the catholic school in our area. Our commitment to the important endeavor of school-based policing was established in 1987 when the first SRO was assigned to our high school. February 4th, 2025, at approximately 2 pm, the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School received two phone calls in near succession threatening the school. The threats were non-specific to the school, nor time, and carried all the hallmarks of a “swatting” call. Swatting calls are hoaxes designed to create a rapid response from law enforcement and create chaos. Our partners at the Yarmouth Police Department reviewed the calls and have determined that, based upon their training with the FBI, all the characteristics of a swatting call were present with these calls today. Unfortunately, swatting calls are a part of a reality that schools deal with across our state and the country (this link from the Department of Home Land Security provides more information on swatting for those interested). The Yarmouth Police Department has confirmed that patrol officers will be present during arrival tomorrow at DYHS as an extra precaution.
