The Dennis-Yarmouth Regional Schools Police Services Unit is a joint multi-jurisdictional detachment of the Yarmouth Police and Dennis Police Departments. Our four full-time POST certified school resource officers provide the full spectrum of police services to the district's five schools and the catholic school in our area with a permanent presence at both Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School and Dennis-Yarmouth Intermediate Middle School. Our commitment to the important endeavor of school-based policing was established in 1987 when the first SRO was assigned to our high school. The D-Y Police Services Unit will be working an intermittent schedule for the summer. Some of our SROs are reassigned to patrol and others are taking some time off. If you require police services for an event on one of our school campuses the best result will come from contacting police headquarters in a timely manner.

Farewell Officer Brewer and Happy Retirement!
We have to say farewell to veteran Yarmouth Police School Resource Officer Sean Brewer as he begins his retirement on the last day of school. SRO Brewer has served for almost thirty years with half of that as a school resource officer to the D-Y Schools. Sean’s experience and dedication were invaluable to the safe operation of the schools he served. SRO Brewer joined the Yarmouth Police SRO unit in 2011, doubling its size, when he applied for the assignment at Mattacheese Middle School. SRO Brewer brought a high level of police experience to his post, having previously served as a police officer in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Mashpee, Massachusetts before joining the Yarmouth Police. SRO Brewer coached both soccer and softball and made relationship with many students by imparting knowledge and wisdom while teaching the play of the game. SRO Brewer moved to the new Dennis-Yarmouth Intermediate Middle School when Mattacheese was decommissioned. He oversaw the startup of that building's security system and training of the now merged staff, with faculty and staff coming from both Mattacheese and the simultaneously decommissioned Nathanial H. Wixon Intermediate School. Sean Brewer founded the Yarmouth Police comfort dog program by acquiring Finley, the school resource dog. Sean pushed through a lengthy and exhaustive approval and acquisition process and Finley joined the team, helping people wherever she was needed.
We will miss Sean immensely and we wish him well for all the tomorrows that follow.
D-Y 8th Grade Advanced Civics Students Pitch More SROs to the Yarmouth Select Board
Yarmouth Select Board 6-23-2026.mp4Two eighth grade students from Jared Stevens' Advanced Civics class presented their Civics Day project to the Yarmouth Select Board during public comment on Tuesday night, June 23rd. The project was a collaborative effort between Eliza Doto, Taylin Frazier and Lara Andrade. Lara was unable to attend. The team proposed stationing fulltime school resource officers in the Yarmouth elementary schools. The Doto/Frazier/Andrade team won the D-Y Civics Day award in March and earned a spot to present at the state Civics Day event held at Bridgewater State University in May. Eliza and Taylin did a great job presenting and you can watch it here. The team was well received by the board.

Arianna Corso was this year's D-Y intern with the Yarmouth Police, and she did a great job. She did such a great job, she was the recipient of the Yarmouth Police Relief Association's Sergeant Sean Gannon Memorial Scholarship this year. Arianna will be attending the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in the fall as a student in the school of Emergency Management. Arianna wanted to be a state trooper, but we think we have won her over to local policing.
D-Y Freshman Rylee Alexander asked us for help with a project for Mr. Whinnem's Film Production class. He produced "DYRSD School Safety with Officer Nick" which is now posted on the DYMedia1 channel on YouTube. We think Rylee did a really nice job and so we linked his work here.
