This course provides learning experiences in food science and food production. This would be an opportunity for students to apply scientific knowledge to practices used in the development and preservation of food products. Issues of food science and safety are examined from a scientific and technological perspective. This course allows students to learn where their food comes from, how to accurately and safely prepare it, and how to make sound consumer, economic and nutritional decisions. Topics in this course include, creating and tending to a garden, working in the greenhouse, learning how to can vegetables, dehydrating fruit and meats, conducting experimental labs with other foods including eggs and dairy products. Any member enrolled in class is automatically a member of FFA, as the two work together to provide an enriching agriculture education program.
