Durham Sixth Form Centre is an outstanding and oversubscribed sixth form in Durham city centre. We currently have over 1800 students in the 16 to 19 age range studying A Level and BTEC courses. We also offer Level 4 Foundation in Art and Design.

The Arts and Humanities Faculty offers an extensive range of A Levels and L3 equivalent courses across visual, performing, media and written arts. In addition we run and participate in high profile public events such as The Big Draw, Debating Matters and Lumiere. We maintain strong relationships with cultural organisations and also run Durham County Council’s Secondary Art Teacher Network. Through this arts advocacy work, students and colleagues from our own centre and beyond engage in the opportunities available. We achieved Artsmark Platinum status in 2018 demonstrating our outstanding commitment to the arts.

We realised our vision to create a contemporary art space in the heart of our school and Durham City in Summer 2023. A long term ambition, The Dead Dog Gallery is a free, accessible space to experience exhibitions, create art and participate in a programme of residencies, events and classes. This safe, inclusive space serves to support people in our immediate, local and regional communities providing pathways to excellence in the arts and bringing communities together.  Our purpose, through the Dead Dog Gallery, is to support artists in their professional progression and to deliver both community and young people’s programmes.

Our Dead Dog Gallery website is currently under construction
