Durango High School offers a pathway that includes courses for students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. There are courses for each student to take all 4 years of high school.
Level 1: Introduction to Healthcare Careers
Level 2: Medical Terminology
Level 3: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant
Level 4: Capstone / Internship / EKG Tech / Phlebotomy Tech
Durango High School has a simulator lab that mimics a hospital & clinic for students to learn and master hands-on skills required for the medical profession. We refer to this space as the Demon Medical Lab. Check out the video below to see the Lab!
The Health Science Pathway at Durango High School features advanced state-of-the-art technology and equipment, providing our students with hands-on experiences and training for the medical field. During 2024, the pathway acquired three patient simulators (left). Students have access to equipment comparable to that found in a collegiate-level program, allowing for a diverse spectrum of training and learning opportunities.Â
This pathway was created by Kyle Montgomery in 2018 to offer courses that enhance students' interest in the healthcare field. COVID-19 delayed the growth of the pathway, but since moving to full-time teaching and receiving major support from Dr. Karen Cheser, Dr. Dylan Connel, Jamie Yarborogh, Dr. Jon Hoerl, Kricket Lewis, and Bailey Noonan, the CTSO/Pathway experienced exponential growth in the 2023 & 2024 school years. A massive debt of gratitude and thankfulness goes out to everyone who was involved in making this enormous leap in the correct direction.
