The primary goals of the 9-R Behavior Specialist's work are:
Deliver direct and indirect services to students to facilitate ideal student behaviors so that students can access learning and succeed academically, behaviorally, and socio-emotionally.
Support staff and families as an educator, coach and consultant to provide knowledge and skills so that these parties can support students socio-emotionally, behaviorally and academically.
These goals are accomplished via the following responsibilities:
Direct Student Services
Counseling - One-on-one and/or small group counseling of students for socio-emotional and behavioral issues.
Coaching - In-school“coaching” of individual students to teach skills and improve student behaviors.
Crisis Intervention - Immediate response to student soci-emotional and behavioral crisis to de-escalate and reintegrate students into the school day.
Indirect Student Services
Consultation - Consultation with district staff, parents, and community-based individuals and organizations on individual students demonstrating behavioral issues.
Observation/Assessment/Recommendations - In-school observation and assessment of students' behaviors in order to make behavioral intervention suggestions to increase desired student behaviors.
Plan Development - Development, review, refinement andimplementation of students' Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), Response to Intervention (RtI) plans andIndividual Education Plans (IEP) with a focus on socio-emotional and behavioral goals.
Staff Services
Consultation - Consultation with district staff and administration related to student behavioral issues, socio-emotional and behavioral services, and other related topics.
Coaching - "Coaching" of district staff related to implementation of socio-emotional and behavioral interventions for students.
Professional Development Training - Creation and presentation of professional development trainings related to student socio-emotional and behavioral issues.
Support - Counseling support for district staff related to their delivery of socio-emotional and behavioral services to students.
Family Services
Consultation - Consultation with families related to their students' socio-emotional and behavioral issues and services.
Education - Parent education and presentations related to socio-emotional and behavioral issues of students.
Support - Counseling support and community-resource referral for families with students who have soci-emotional and behavioral issues.
