Students in Year 10 have the option to study a language.
It is advised that if students intend to continue with the study of a Language, that they opt for 2 semesters in their chosen language course.
Te Tupuranaga 1 is where students will develop confidence to use a range of language learning strategies. In Semester 1 students will learn to:
talk about daily routines and customs; travelling; shopping; how to offer, decline and accept; responsibilities and behaviours; events and where they take place; how to give and follow directions; and to talk about how people travel.
The course aims to extend students' ability to create their worlds in te reo Māori, while also learning aspects of Māori tikanga and culture, such as pōwhiri; tapu & noa; manaakitanga and marae. Students develop awareness of language revitalisation strategies. Key skill areas are whakarongo (listening); kōrero (speaking), tuhituhi (writing), and pānui (reading).
