Students in Year 10 must complete the Compulsory PE Course.
Students may also choose any of the other semester courses offered in Physical Education and Health.
This course continues to develop from the Year 9 program, adding to the underlying concepts in Health and Physical Education. The programme aims for students to understand influences on their well-being and develop critical thinking and decision making skills that allow them to build upon resilience and self- management skills, in both practical and health based environments. Practical components will involve learning in, through and about movement, with an emphasis on interpersonal skills.
This course offers students the opportunity to learn about how an athlete ‘trains to perform’. It will allow students to build their knowledge around training programmes and athlete well-being, across a range of physical activities. Students will gain insight about what it takes to live the life of an athlete, and practice skills such as goal setting and improving fitness capabilities. Topics covered in this course will include: athlete well-being, exercise physiology, sports psychology and sports nutrition.
The focus of this course is for students to use a variety of water environments and develop a range of skills to participate in water based activities. The course may include swimming, life saving awards, pool based kayaking and other activities like sailing, paddle boarding, flat water kayaking and working towards a day skippers ticket. Students will be working in the local area, even extending their learning setting to Cromwell. This course may require students to participate outside of school hours, but this would be no greater than 12 hours.
