The 10-yard split is a critical test for measuring an athlete’s acceleration and explosiveness, especially in sports that require quick bursts of speed.
How It Works:
The athlete sprints from a static start (typically a three-point stance).
A timer records the time it takes to cover the first 10 yards.
Why It’s Important:
This test highlights an athlete’s first-step quickness, reaction time, and explosive power—key factors for success in football (RB, DB, LB, DL, WR), soccer, lacrosse, baseball (stealing bases), and basketball (fast breaks).
We use this test to identify weaknesses in acceleration mechanics and design training programs that maximize explosiveness, stride efficiency, and power output.
