Dublin City Schools is a Google District that recently adopted Schoology as our Learning Management System. We spent a year front-loading the tool and instructional best practice for using our LMS, and followed that with a 1:1 initiative in grades 6 and 9. All middle and high school students will be 1:1 by 2020.
Schoology and other Learning Management Systems provide teachers with a powerful tool that enables their instruction to move from teacher-led to teacher-facilitated. We have moved beyond the teacher being the "keeper of the information," and into the world of teacher facilitator. With the use of an LMS, teachers can use data from formative assessments to efficiently target student learning and use the LMS to help deliver it. This enables all students to work at their own pace on activities that meet their learning style. By personalizing learning, we provide rigor for all students.
Using an LMS doesn't mean a class is only digital. Although there are often engaging digital components in a class, the LMS is often used as a roadmap for students as they work collaboratively in face-to-face groups.
This playground session combines viewpoints from a Technology Learning Coach and a classroom teacher who is putting those instructional practices into action in her own Science classroom. Walk away with ideas on how to organize your LMS and classroom instruction to reach maximum impact on student learning.
Presenter Bio - Rhonda Luetje, Technology Learning Coach, Dublin City Schools @rhondaluetje
As a Technology Learning Coach in Dublin Schools, I am excited to work with middle school teachers and students at Sells and Karrer Middle Schools. In the last 5 years, we have become a Google District, adopted Schoology as our LMS, and gone 1:1 with Chromebooks. With all of these supports in place, we are moving forward at a break-neck pace into the world of personalized learning. Each year we become more impactful as educators to ensure that all students reach their potential. I am honored to be a part of it.

As a classroom teacher for over 20 years, I have never had the tools to truly personalize learning until now. I use Schoology & Google on an almost daily basis to push all students forward with their individualized learning. With the support and assistance of one of my district's technology learning coaches, students are becoming empowered with their learning! We use formative assessment data to help students self-reflect and determine the best path for their learning. I am looking forward to sharing strategies that I've used in my classroom to help others personalize their students' learning, starting as soon as tomorrow!
