DECODABLE TEXT:
Core Knowledge Language Arts CKLA
Flyleaf Publishing
Students who struggle with reading benefit from repeated reading of books with words that they can sound out(decode). These decodable texts have words that students are able to decode because they have been explicitly taught the phonics generalizations for the sound they contain. In addition, they also have sight words also called tricky words, because they do not follow the phonics that have been taught. These words are taught and practiced with students regularly.
Flyleaf Publishing has an eLibrary of text that can provide students with the feeling of success because they are able to read the text with little help. Repeated reading of the text will enhance the student's skills and confidence that they can read the words more automatically. There are 14 parts that follow the sequence of phonics skills taught from kindergarten through second grade and into the intermediate elementary years of school. Begin where your student seems to be struggling or ask their teacher or a reading specialist which part is best to begin.
