In order to meet the needs of all of our students, I provide small group extra reading support each day. During this instruction, I utilize Guided Reading, as well as, provide extra practice and support with first-grade phonics and reading skills.
The Core Knowledge Language Arts Decodable Readers are used to build student confidence in reading. The chapter books are engaging and provide students with text at a level that they can read.
Additionally, I provide some 1st grade students with the Wilson Language Program: Fundations Reading Intervention. This specialized instruction supplements the child’s regular reading class.
Learning to read is a highly developmental process with children learning at different paces. We recognize this simple fact and tailor our reading program and instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
The makeup of my groups change throughout the year just as our students learn and grow in a variety of ways.
If I am lucky enough to work with your child, I look forward to the experience! It is truly amazing to watch a first grader learn to read!
