STUDY ENVIRONMENT

To get the most of your study time, organize your space.

1. Select a space free of noise and distractions.

No interruptions such as the telephone, TV, computer games, etc.

( Allowance for a 15 min. break)

2. Acquire needed materials.

  • computer with charger

- pens/pencils/erasers

- pencil sharpener

- paper

- organizers (binders, folders, notebooks)

- stapler

- Thesaurus and dictionary

- calculator

- three hole punch

Monitor organization.

- Check binder for orderliness.

- Supervise student organization of worksheets.

Notes should be filed according to subject area and date.

Dispense of unnecessary papers.

Replenish supplies.

Time management

- Budget time to include both study and extra-curricular activities.

- Develop a plan for long-term assignments.

Motivation

  • Praise your child daily for his/ her accomplishments.

  • Recognize and encourage your child's responsibility, persistence, self-discipline, task completion and positive attitude.

  • Make learning relevant by teaching your child life skills such as reading a map, measuring for a project, figuring out the tip at a restaurant reading a recipe, labels or directions, etc.

  • You are your child's #1 teacher.

  • Recognize student frustration and help him/her problem solve.

  • Role model these techniques every day.

  • Recognize and appreciate your child's strengths.

  • Give him or her the opportunity to show others what he/ she can do.

  • Share positive experiences.

  • Every one needs to fill that "emotional bank account".
