This hands-on course introduces students to the fundamentals of woodworking. Students will learn to use the various hand tools and shop machines required when building projects from wood. Students will also learn to read and produce the drawings necessary for building woodworking projects. Attention will be given to woodworking building practices and the quality of the finished product. This course will introduce students to pathways that lead to various careers in woodworking and skilled trades.
This course introduces students to the world of building construction and woodworking. Students will gain hands-on experience by safely using a variety of materials, tools and equipment used to build woodworking and construction related projects. Students will also develop skills to design and create various drawings and floor plans using the AutoCAD program. This course is ideal for those who enjoy learning by doing and is an excellent way to develop home building and woodworking skills as well as explore construction relates careers. Projects include: wheelbarrow planter, wall frame and electrical circuit, rec-room design, country shelf, model truss and folding stool.
This course focuses on residential construction and woodworking and will prepare students for a post-secondary education or career in the construction field. Students will gain hands-on experience by safely using a variety of materials, tools and equipment used in the building industry. Students will also develop design skills by creating floor plan and elevation presentation drawings for a residential home using the AutoCAD program. This course is ideal for those interested in building and woodworking as a hobby as well as those who wish to pursue a construction related career. Projects include: a toolbox, framing, electrical and drywall unit, architectural drawings and muskoka chair.
This course focuses on a more in depth study of residential construction and woodworking and prepares students for a post-secondary education or career in the construction field. Students will gain hands-on experience by safely using a variety of materials, tools and equipment used in the building industry. Students will also develop design skills by creating architectural working drawings for a residential home using the AutoCAD program. This course is ideal for those interested in building and woodworking as a hobby as well as those who wish to pursue a construction related career. Projects include: stair unit, roof frame, architectural drawings, house framing model and hope chest.
