On Oct 2, 2019, 20 teams travelled to the YMCA Pool in order to qualify to represent Eden at the Skills Ontario Provincial Qualifier scheduled for December in Toronto or London. The winning teams at the end of the afternoon were Etan Dau and Evan Grigg in a boat that sped down the pool in 16.7 seconds and held 440 lbs and the team of Mizan Abu Ramadan and Nick Allan in a boat that was paddled down the pool in a time of 17 seconds and held a weight of 470 lbs.
On Tuesday, November 26, your Eden Flyers made the huge road trip to Belleville in order to take part in the Regional Cardboard Boat Event put on by Skills Ontario. After a long, 3 hour, gruelling van ride, we unloaded at our destination for our sleepover before the event scheduled the next day. After very little sleep, your cardboard boat heroes fueled up at a local greasy spoon and then came out building. in an attempt to qualify for this year's provincials by finishing in the top three. After the two hours of building had finished, all three Eden squads were confident going into the testing portion of the competition. At the end of the day, two teams finished in the top 3 thereby qualifying for the Provincials in March. The silver medal boat was powered down the pool by Zach Reimer in 17.5 seconds. The boat held a grand total of 540 lbs before it sank. The gold medal boat cruised down the pool in 21.6 seconds with Ethan Lett at the helm. Their boat held an impressive 750 lbs. before sinking. Congratulations to Ethan Dau, Mizan Abu Ramadam,Devon Kopeschny, Abi McGugan, Nikolai Bluzmans and Alex Brink who along with Ethan and Zach will be heading to the beautiful town of Waterloo, Ontario in March to compete in the Provincial Championship competition.
On March 2, your Eden Flyers were supposed to make the trip to the beautiful city of Waterloo, Ontario for the Provincial Cardboard Competition at the Waterloo Recreation Center. Disappointingly, the weather did not co-operate and we were snowed out. Sadly, George Lister, Alexis Anderson, Adam Neufeld and Andrew Klassen did not have the opportunity to bring home the hardware and for once, a team from somewhere other than the DSBN was able to win the provincials.
