In this assignment, we read The Odyssey by Homer and wrote an essay about whether or not Odysseus should be considered a hero. I looked at his actions during his journey home from the Trojan War and thought about both his strengths and flaws. In my essay, I argued that even though Odysseus was smart, brave, and determined, some of his choices—like lying or being selfish—make it hard to call him a true hero all the time. This assignment helped me think more deeply about what it really means to be a hero and how people can be both good and flawed at the same time.
