1/4/2022 TinkerCAD: Create Plankton

What is Tinker CAD? TinkerCAD is a 3D modeling program that allows you to design various objects using an assortment of items including shapes, colors, and sizes.

By following a PDF tutorial document I created a Plankton from Spongebob Squarepants. This allowed me to practice making objects for my first time on TinkerCad. Here is my final result:

1/13/2022 TinkerCAD: Cartoon Customization

I created a cartoon character named Olaf from the Disney movie Frozen using a Youtube tutorial. The inspiration behind this design is that I enjoy watching the movie Frozen because I believe it teaches many life lessons. This movie displays the importance of family and never apologizing for being yourself. I decided to create one of my favorite characters from the movie which is Olaf because he represented love, joy, and happiness.

IMG_3355.MOV

This LED Light is focused on a woman named Dorothy Height, she was a African American civil rights leader who advocated for woman's rights, voter awareness, unemployment, illiteracy, and so much more. She impacted the community in so many positive ways with her knowledge and her caring spirt. She will never be forgotten!

Laser Cutter

A laser cutter is a thermal laser beam that is used to melt material in specific areas.

How To: Glowforge

This is a brief video that shows how to use the glow forge which is a 3D laser printer.

Inkscape Design

This is a digital design that I used to visualize what I wanted to go on my acrylic top. Using Inkscape I was able to use text, different fonts, pictures, and shapes to make my project/idea come to life.

Dorothy Height Acrylic Top

Through this project I faced challenges like spelling the name of the person I choose to create my top on, I struggled with making sure that the acrylic would perfectly fit down into the base, and connecting the wires to make the LED strip illuminate correctly. The materials that were used for this project were cardboard, led strips, USB cords, wires, wire cutters, a motherboard, scissors , tape , and hot glue. The easiest part about creating the Acrylic LED Light was designing how I wanted it to look because I had an idea already as far as what I wanted to do and who I wanted to create it on so all I had to do was make that come to life. Another easy part of this project was making the base for the top out of cardboard. To cut and engrave my piece using the 3D laser cutter it took one hour and forty minutes. If I was given complete creative freedom for this project I would've possibly designed something on my favorite quote, a loved one, a person who inspires me , or something that I love doing. The person that I chose to pay homage to is Dorothy Height. I chose this person because she was a leader who addressed the rights of women and African Americans. She was the president of the National Council of Negro Women. She also worked to fight against drugs, illiteracy, and unemployment. Anything that Dorothy felt wasn't right she tried her best to bring awareness to the cause and get it fixed. That is what drew me towards her because she seemed like she was very hard worker, a go-getter, and courageous.

Baseball Bat Prototype

We will be making two baseball bats using various tools on wood.

Baseball Bat Information

Actual measurement for a baseball bat is 32 inches, and the actual measurement for the barrel of the bat is 2 1/4 inches. The measurement of the handle including the knob would be 11 inches long. The knob's diameter would be 2 inches. A baseball bat can be made using wood preferably maple wood.

Lathe Wood Cutting Machine

This is the type of machine that we will be using in order to carve out the different parts of the baseball bat using a wood turning tool.

Tutorial using a Lathe

This video shows you how to make a baseball bat using the lathe machine, various safety rules, the measurements that are necessary to create a baseball bat, and it gives you tips and tricks to make the process easier.

Safety Rules

Do NOT:

  1. Wear gloves, rings, watches, or any loose clothing

  2. Lean on machine

  3. Make adjustments while machine is operating

  4. Do not place hands on work turning in the lathe.

DO:

  1. Remove all tools, measuring instruments and other objects from saddle or lathe bed before starting machine.

  2. Use a vacuum, brush or rake to remove cuttings only after the lathe has stopped moving.

  3. Keep floor around lathe clean and free of oil and grease.

  4. Secure and clamp the piece being worked.

..

Brief/Problem

Originally we wanted to create a baseball bat but it was very time consuming and messy. Instead of creating that we decided to create a gift for mother's day. The teacher came up with an idea to create a photo collage cube.

Research

Photo Planter

Mom Acyrlic Keychain

Mom Coaster

Mom Car Mirror Pendant

Idea Development

Box Measurements

We drew out the measurements that we needed for the box.

Shapes

We decided what shape me thought would be best to create the base of.

Prototype

Cut Wood Pieces

These are the pieces were that cut out after finding the required measurements to make the shapes for the box

Glued Box

I glued the pieces together using wood glue and tape to hold it while it dried.

Painted Box

After gluing the box together I painted the box.

Final Product

This is the final product of the project. I've decided to fill the inside with something maybe a plant, candle, or even a tissue box.

Testing

Unfortunately I was not able to finish the collage cube by mother's day but I still was able to finish it to its completion. This project was inexpensive because we were able to use items and machine that were already provided to us by the school. The final product works very well as a collage. cube its nots falling apart and I was also able to add pictures in it which gave it a special personal touch.
