I’ve always been an independent person. I enjoy figuring things out and working through problems that I find challenging. In that sense, I would also say that I’m headstrong. I’m steady in my personal beliefs, and I know what I want in my life. From a really young age, I loved to plan out my life, knowing what I wanted as a job, what classes I would prefer in high school, and I think that energy has still followed me throughout high school. When I was creating my art portfolio for my GHP application during Sophomore year, I was quickly overwhelmed with the edits I wanted to make in the art pieces. To calm down, I created a checklist that detailed the days I would work on the artworks, how long I needed to work on them, and the specific edits I wanted to make. I was able to complete the portfolio in time for my interview, all without feeling like it was too much. I stayed on the Art Pathway and worked on my art skills until I was happy with them. Even with college, I have a plan—where I’m going, why I want to go there, and what I’m going to do after. In my mind, my plan is all laid out. I have different paths planned, like getting a Master’s degree or applying to a PhD program. By planning my life and knowing what I want to do, I can comfort myself, as it gives me a clear path.
