One way that we applied transformations to the real world was through discussing how video games were made when they were designed by hand in the early 1980s. We went through the process of designing our own video games which consisted of translations, rotations, and reflections that helped navigate the players of the video game. Click here for link.

It was important throughout this process that we remember the differences between translations, reflections, rotations, and dilations. Translations involve a shape or figure sliding across the axis, generally up or down. Reflections are flips across the access either horizontally or vertically. Rotations are shapes rotating or revolving around a point on the access a certain amount of degrees. Lastly, dilations involve the alter of the size of the shape to get larger and smaller.

Transformations can been seen in most if not all subjects. In art, we are constantly changing the size of the shape and rotating pieces of art into the art work. In AP World History, we are always looking at maps and their relative location compared to neighboring countries, that relates to translation.
