In our AP Language class, we started to learn about the Romanticism era in the United States, and the pioneers who brought more emotional, vivid, and freeform writing to the forefront. One such writer was poet Emily Dickinson, and through her work we were able to better conceptualize things like loneliness, hope, and possibility. For this assignment, we were given guitars and soundtracked our own recordings of her poem. I used my instrumental skills to help on the former front, and with my group, we created something that encompasses both language and music beautifully.
To finish out the school year, we were asked to complete one of four projects from a list including activities like presenting on your favorite things from the year, writing poetry, and a short film. For my project, I chose the essay, and used it to talk about what I learned and how I grew. I used my first two years and compared them with the person, the rising senior, I am now.
