For our 9th grade literature project, we created an empathy collage to make a connection between two characters. Instead of doing characters, my group and I decided to do events. We compared the Trojan war to a more modern event, 9/11. They were both very tragic events, so this is why we decided to compare them. In the Odyssey, Odysseus left home to fight in the Trojan war. He decides to enter using a sneak attack method. There was a Trojan horse as a “gift” for the Trojans. In reality, there was no gift. This was just a way for Odysseus and his men to sneak and attack the Trojans off guard. This has a connection to our modern example, 9/11 because the Al- Qaeda group made a surprise attack on the U.S. This event left many people homeless, dead, injured, and depressed. Just how Odysseus and his people attacked the Trojans, the Al- Qaeda group attacked America. While Odysseus was smarter in the way he attacked the Trojans, both examples portray an attack that was very deadly.
