For our final project of the semester, we are making stained glass art with geometric designs. Our piece is space-themed and incorporates an abstract style. We freestyled on a piece of paper until it became coherent. The three elements of art we included were line, space, and texture. The three principles of design we used were movement, proportion, and variety. After creating our shapes we had to measure and prove that they were the shape we said they were. When measuring the parallelograms, we had to take into account the fact that opposite sides and angles are congruent.
Our class worked with MIT and followed a course curriculum that their researchers and teachers designed with the goal of remodeling a building of our choice. I chose the auditorium because I wanted to make it resemble the main building more than it does currently. We went through the basics and covered how to solve for the volume and surface area of different shapes. This led to planning and sketching out ideas and creating a 3D model. I put the process on a slideshow and presented my pitch.
Using a protractor, straw, and string, our class created clinometers and measured the heights of objects around the school.
