For our first project in 9th-grade literature, we create an Empathy Collage to make a connection between a character in the Odyssey and a person in the modern world. Our group related Argos, Odysseus’ abandoned dog, to an abandoned child. In the book, the Odyssey, Argos is a puppy that Odysseus adopts before going to war. But, as Odysseus is stuck at sea for twenty years, Argos grows up. While Odysseus is gone Argos is given to another man to take care of him. But he dies. With no one to take care of him, he is left abandoned. This shows how some dogs, and humans, are just left without anyone to love or care for them. Argos is left alone but is still very loyal to Odysseus. When Odysseus sees Argos after twenty years, he is laying in pile a poop. When Argos sees Odysseus he feels as if he has fulfilled his purpose to stay loyal, and dies. In America, many children are left abandoned. A study found that about 22,000 Babies Left in Hospitals, and even more left by their parents in the US alone. Like Argos in the Odyssey, children are abandoned in the US. They are left to take care of themselves with no help or care. While not as many people are left today, there are children whose parents don’t take care of them as they should.
The past few weeks we have been using E-Learning. During this time we did a project in summative project in Spanish. The objective of this project is to show mastery of technology vocabulary through presentational speaking. I got a 100 by reaching our goal for Spanish 2 by speaking fluidly and naturally, and by giving tons of great details mixed in with transition words.
