This is the final video to our group project of the Epic Elements Project/PBL. This is our final product of our stop motion process.
Artist Statement: In this project everything went well for me. The only thing that I kind of struggled with is the final stop motion, everything else just came to me easier. I could probably improved the backgrounds by putting theme in photopea and using some of the tools from there. Something I learned form this project was how to create a moving picture using google slides and how to use the platform photopea. On scale from 1-10 I feel that this project was a 8.5-9. I say this because I know there are some things we could’ve done better, we just didn’t realize at the time and with the struggles of sometimes not always having enough time to communicate. Also with the situation of one of our group members transferring to a different school, I feel like we handled the situation well. If I were the teacher, I probably would’ve tried to give the work out in smaller portions at the end so it wouldn’t feel too rushed.

For this assignment we had to create our own looms out of cardboard and choose to different colors of yarn to weave on our make-shift loom. Once you had a satisfactory amount or were finished with yours, you would collaborate with a partner and either make a covalent or ionic bond. This is mine and my partners, which represents a covalent bond.

For this assignment, we learned the background and process/evolution of friendship bracelets over the years. We were given options of what kind of bracelets we wanted to make and our assignment was to create and gift a bracelet for someone. This is mine.

For this project we had to make an item from recycled materials that could be used in real life situations. I made a coaster with a key chain attached to it. It is related to chemistry because plastic is made from fossil fuels and it benefits the environment because everything used for this project is made from recyclable materials. What Principles of Design are you using? The principles of design used for this project were pattern and repetition. I made this by first making my coaster on a loom the I made out of cardboard then getting a strip of plastic and twisting it until it was tight enough to where it wouldn’t rip then I weaved it into the coaster and tightened it on. It was difficult to make the tight strip of plastic for the key chain because I had to find a way to do this without braiding it. I would’ve planned ahead more so my project could’ve went through more smoothly. What I learned that plastics are made from fossil fuels.
In class we were first introduced to the website tinker CAD and were told to get familiar with the tools on the site for our next assignment. We were then given options of which molecule form we would create on tinker CAD. After we chose our molecule and created it, we were assigned to create an artwork that represented our molecule in any way and the molecule structure must be included into our final art. My idea was to create a model of a mini water plant as you can see to the left. I used the principles of design of movement, emphasis, balance, unity, and proportion. I incorporated my tinker CAD model in this by using the different shapes, colors, people, and the many options that were given to help with size and direction. Some careers that use the digital tools I use are probably game designers or digital engineers.
The was a collaborative project between art and science. Our driving question was "How can we depict a chemical reaction through art?" My project was to see how flammable spray paint was after being sprayed on wood. My project was successful in a way, but also not as successful as I wanted it to be. Although it did no catch on fire, I was still able to make burn marks on it.
These are our finished product of our element tiles. We were tasked with creating a representation tile for a chemical element we were given at random. This element tile was made out of clay, and after it was dried we painted them with glazing paint. Finally for the last step, our teacher put them in the kiln to get the final product.
We addressed the driving question by getting in groups and then discussing some of the controversial topics that are happening in the world right now, and we each chose one that stood out to us. Our project is related to Picasso's Guernica by drawing a collage of items that represent many different controversial topics in the world as of now. Also, our project is related to cubism because we have the same shading effects and separating lines that are needed to represent cubism. We learned many things during this project such as Guernica, Picasso's life, and things that can lead to war. Things we could improve on is our design on the board. My group's Change is Gonna Come artwork contains multiple topics. The topics included in our artwork are natural disasters, forced vaccines, pollution, and deforestation. These topics were chosen because these were the ones that stood out the most to us out of the others that we discussed. Our artwork relates to Picasso's Guernica because like his artwork, our ideas or thoughts are collaged together in one painting. Also, alike Picasso's Guernica, ours includes the same dividing lines and shading in our artwork. In the section of the painting we were given we did our best to spread all of our ideas to cover the entire area and leave little space where nothing was covered. My topic that was included in the artwork was forced vaccines.
