For my AP Drawing series, I am painting people by their name meaning in Hebrew. I chose this topic for my series because I have two names, the name on my birth certificate, and the Hebrew name my rabbi gave me at birth. Hebrew names carry personal meanings and definition, so I wanted to portray other people by what their name means in Hebrew. Each piece will be symbolic, revolving around their Hebrew translation. The series will also have a focus on the elements of movement, proportion, and balance, whether in the background or the character themself.
Kate means pure and protected. In this piece, I painted a self portrait of me in my school uniform with a protector and an angelic person to represent being pure of heart. Her hand is also placed over a stitched heart on the hoodie. This piece is made from acrylic paint and markers.
This piece translates to sun and noble, so I used acrylic paint and painted half of the girl in peaceful and calm colors, and the other half in bright yellow to symbolize the sun.
Aoki means blue tree. I painted a portrait of a person with branches in acrylic paint, using only blues.
Mari means of the sea so I painted a face and made the background look like water with movement.
Ariel means lion of god. I painted a portrait with shades of oranges and yellows to represent the lion.
