This is a presentation I created to share my internship experience during STEAM Day at both the middle school and elementary school. As part of STEAM day, I had the opportunity to present to younger students about what I’ve been learning and how I’ve applied my engineering and problem-solving skills in the real world.

My project: Road to 100 bikes
My main project over the course of the internship was to assemble a total of 100 bikes, which required careful attention to detail, mechanical skill, and time management. In addition to building the bikes, I also kept responsibilities in both sales and maintenance. In sales, I interacted with customers and answered questions about which bikes best fit their needs. For maintenance, I learned how to find and fix issues, both electrical and mechanical, and perform tune-ups. Balancing all three roles gave me a well-rounded experience and helped me grow in both technical and professional skills.

How has this internship compared to previous experiences you have had?
This internship was a big shift from what I was used to in my engineering classes at school. In class, most of our projects were controlled. We would follow a plan, use the school tools, and work in the classroom. At Edison, I had responsibilities that affected the business. It was also a lot more unpredictable, not having the ability to control everything happening, which made me think quickly. The experience gave me a taste of real-world applications for my skills.
How has your internship impacted your plans for the future?
This internship helped strengthen my interest in mechanical engineering and helped me understand how much working on projects that have a real-world impact means to me. It showed me how rewarding it is to build something from start to finish and see how it helps others. I’ve gained some interest in sustainable transportation, which I hadn’t really considered before. Now I’m thinking about careers that combine engineering and have an environmental impact, and I’m way more confident in my decision to pursue this path in college and beyond.
