In this class, we studied the relations between geography and human patterns and examined how they affect the world around us.
Social Studies Assignment #1
We were told to make postcards of places in Metro Atlanta that fit a certain criteria ( a historic site, a protected landscape, a place where people have changed the natural environment, influence if a non-English language, a political boundary or border, an economic sector, government entity, sacred place, a landscape of either health or healing, and an example of placelessness. I worked with Kimela Fonegh on this assignment.
Social Studies Assignment #2
We were told to make a map that mainly used symbols and drawings. Why we are here, how we got here, and where will we go were three questions that needed to be answered on our Mind Map. For how I got here, I drew a flag of Trinidad to represent my great Grandfather, who was born there. I also drew a car leaving Alabama and going to Georgia to represent my parents moving to Georgia. For why I am here, I drew the Earth and drew arrows pointing from one place to another because I believe I am here to travel the world. For where I am going, I drew the logo of Emory University and a brain, which represents my interest in Psychology. I also drew an airplane because I am considering going abroad during college. I also drew other things that represent me. The music note represents my love of music, the harp represents the instrument I currently am playing, ELA represents my best subject, "Hola" and "こんにちは" represent my interest in Spanish and Japanese, the math equation represents my interest in math, and the book represents my love for reading. I split up the poster into puzzle pieces to represent my problem solving skills.
