The goal of this project was to explore the historical context and impact of the Columbian Exchange, particularly focusing on how the exchange of goods, foods, and cultures between the Western and Eastern Hemispheres shaped global history. The different class assignments were related in that they each addressed different aspects of the Columbian Exchange, with each discipline contributing a unique perspective on the topic. For art class, I created a piece related to food from the Western Hemisphere, which was an important part of the Columbian Exchange. I decided to make this by considering foods that were introduced to the Old World, such as potatoes, tomatoes, and corn, and how they transformed agriculture and cuisine globally. My technique involved researching these foods, sketching their forms, and using paint to bring them to life in a visually appealing way, symbolizing the lasting impact of these crops.
