SPACE IS THE NEW PLACE PBL

In my Space is the New Place PBL project, I was challenged to explore innovation and creativity through two different tasks: designing a robotic animal and learning something of my choice. For the robotic animal, I created an insect, focusing on how its features could be adapted for space exploration, such as lightweight movement and sensory adaptations that could be useful in extraterrestrial environments. For my second task, I chose to learn American Sign Language (ASL), a skill that enhances communication accessibility and could be valuable in space, where clear, non-verbal communication might be crucial in soundless or emergency situations. In the video I created, I demonstrate my ASL learning progress, showcasing a new way to communicate that could be beneficial for astronauts or future space travelers. Space is the New Place relates to my project because space exploration pushes us to think beyond our normal boundaries, whether in engineering new robotic lifeforms that could survive in space or in developing new ways to communicate in challenging environments. Just as scientists and engineers innovate for the unknown, my project allowed me to explore the unknown in both technology and language, proving that space isn’t just about rockets—it’s about expanding human capability in every way possible.
