In Social Justice, we examined the different parts of our identity, such as race, gender, sexuality, hobbies, etc. We were then asked to edit photos to create a portrait of our identity. Using a photo of myself, several photos from the internet, and photo editor Pixlr, I created this. In this portrait I used four different flags. Two are the flags for China and South Korea, being the respective ethnicities of my parents. The flags above them represent my sexuality and my gender identity, with the one on the right being the aromantic asexual flag and the one on the left being the agender flag. In front of me is an issue I care about deeply, being discrimination against Asians in America, especially during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Behind me is the Atlanta city skyline, the city that I grew up in and that I am proud to live in. The sky is also one of my favorite colors, a deep indigo color. Finally, above me are elements of my hobbies, including a large graphic of a harp, a few books to the right, and music notes above my head to represent my interest in several things musical, from instruments to singing to musical theater.
As a part of our practices in examining the rhetorical situations of various texts, we read and analyzed the two essays “Learning to Read and Write" by Frederick Douglass and "Learning to Read" by Malcolm X. In the prompt of the essay, we were asked to "Compare and contrast Frederick Douglass’s and Malcolm X’s attitudes and approaches to education. Then, write an essay that argues your position on the extent to which Douglass’s and X’s claims about education are valid." In this essay, we learned the importance of a thesis paragraph, how to identify and comment on evidence, and how to form and back up a nuaned opinion.
In AP Language, we created a one pager meant to represent part one of the book The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, as well as the chosen epigraph of the book. This epigraph was from author and Holocaust survivor, Elie Wiesel, in which he states “We must not see any person as an abstraction. Instead, we must see in every person a universe with its own secrets, with its own treasures, with its own sources of anguish, and with some measure of triumph." In this one pager, I chose to put in images of family, a farm, the hospital with the statue of Jesus in front of it, several cells and petri dishes, as well as a quote on what kind of person Henrietta Lacks was.
In AP Language, in order to practice analyzing literary passages and learn about various literary devices, we were asked to analyze the lyrics of a song of our choice. This stemmed from an article arguing whether songs could be counted as poetry or not, and our job was to disprove this by writing claims and evidence to defend the literary prowess of our songs. For my project, I chose to analyze the song "Never Love An Anchor" by The Crane Wives, which utilizes apostrophe, metaphors, and anaphora to tell the story of a mother who gives away her child.

In Spanish IV, we learned about different communities and human geography. In this activity, I compare different qualities in cities and the countryside, such as affordable housing, public services, and education. I need to name an advantage and a disadvantage for each quality when in the city and when in the countryside. One pattern I noticed is that cities generally have a lot more things, such as money, infrastructure, citizens, and access to various resources. In contrast, the countryside has much less things, but the experiences of the individual person is much more personalized and interconnected. For example, in education, the city has a large variety of schools. However, classes can be very crowded and busy. In contrast, the countryside has classes that are small, and the students have much more personalized education.
