What does it mean to volunteer? Why would Drew require you volunteer for 100 hours during your high school career?

Camp Hope

Ever since I turned 14 years old I have attended Camp Hope, a Christian program mentoring children with incarcerated parents. Although many began camp hope early on as young as 7 or 8 , I started as a volunteer. I chose this camp because I too grew up with an incarcerated father, and I know that when I was younger, I could have greatly benefited from a program like this. Camp Hope was unlike anything I had ever experienced. I gained a great bond with many people there.

Book Buddies

My 9th grade year, I began participating in a program at my school, where volunteers from the high school read to young children in the elementary campus. Every year you get one book buddy, and that remains your book buddy for the entire year. I love reading to my buddy, we always have a lot of fun together, and it is always fun to track their progress with reading and learning new words as we go along.
