This is my final book cover for the Y-write project. My book is called A way out. The Y-write project is a 60-page book project.
The book "A Way Out" by Alesha Turner is a powerful and heartfelt story that blends memoir, fiction, and motivation. Here’s a summary:
Part Memoir – Chapter 1:
The first chapter is a deeply personal reflection by the narrator (presumably the author), who recounts the trauma and psychological toll of suffering a serious sports injury—specifically, tearing her meniscus. She explores how injuries can affect not only an athlete's physical body but also their identity, self-esteem, and mental health. The chapter includes useful tips for injury prevention and mental recovery, encouraging SMART goal setting, positive thinking, journaling, consistency, and self-care. It's a motivational guide for injured athletes struggling with self-worth and purpose.
Part Fiction – Chapters 2 & 3: The story then shifts into a fictional narrative following Azaria Katz, a talented soccer player and the daughter of powerful sports industry moguls. After transferring to Stoneview Prep, a prestigious school with a strong soccer program, Azaria navigates the challenges of being the new girl, facing mean peers like her neighbor Sherri, and making unexpected friendships with people like Carden, Daisy, and Niah.
As Azaria settles into her new life, her passion for soccer and her budding connection with Carden begin to bloom. Her team does well, and she makes varsity after impressive tryouts. However, just as everything seems perfect, she suffers a devastating injury in the first game of the season. This injury echoes the personal story told in Chapter 1, reinforcing the emotional and physical toll it can take.
Themes:
Mental health and identity in sports
The pain of physical injury and emotional recovery
New beginnings and friendship
Resilience, growth, and self-love
Tone and Style: The book is written in a personal, conversational tone that blends emotional vulnerability with humor, hope, and empowerment. It’s accessible to teen readers but layered with real insights about the mental strain athletes often endure.
For this project we watched this video we then created our own version of a figurative language presentation. We could've done a rap, a poem, a short story, a skit, or whatever our creativity and imagination take you. Our group chose to make a poem.
This is my 1-3 mins video of myself discussing my feelings about the y-write project and becoming an author. (This was recorded at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year.) The y-write project is a 60 page book that covers alot of the aspects and topics that we learned through out the year like similes, metaphors and stuff like that.
This is my I am poem. For this assignment, we had to describe ourselves with a poem. To make it more appealing we put word art on our posters. If you scan the QR code it is me reading my poem.
The empowerment speech is a 6-10 minute speech we had to write that includes the forms of rhetoric. Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. We researched a current problem in our world. I was partnered with Emma Davis, then guided our speech on the question "Will global warming and environmental pollution cause our extinction?". We performed it in the theater in front of our peers and our parents.
