Why join band?
Everyone listens to music in some fashion. I have yet to meet a person who does not. Performing and creating music generates a deeper understanding and appreciation of this art form which is so very much incorporated into our daily routines. The greater musical comprehension which is gained through performing and creating music enriches our daily experiences. Not just in music, but in all facets of life. This is because the creating and performing process naturally develops and fosters an appreciation for aesthetics.
Furthermore, there are countless scientific studies which suggest that learning to play an instrument through regular and consistent practice has a dramatic positive impact on the power and even the shape of your brain. Playing an instrument makes you smarter! It engages nearly every area of the brain simultaneously. Participation in band is an accessible way in which every student can access these amazing attributes.
About the program
The Dracut public schools band program is comprised of students in grades 5-12. The program is designed for students to achieve the Massachusetts Music Standards as outlined in the newly updated "2019 Arts Curriculum Frameworks" developed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Band students accomplish these standards through learning to play an instrument and performance in large ensembles. In addition to learning music through performance, students are also awarded with unique and meaningful performing experiences that promote social growth and teamwork. In the middle school and high school students also have the opportunity to in a variety of competitions and adjudicated performances.
