Magnet Coordinator Job Description

Each Magnet Coordinator shall support the Magnet Principals’ leadership as outlined below, in addition to any assigned initiatives and duties in alignment with the school theme, mission and vision. The Coordinator shall serve as the school level leader of magnet theme implementation, and according to the job description provided by DPS.

• Strategic Leadership: Creates processes to ensure the school’s theme-based vision, mission, values, beliefs and goals actually drive decisions and inform the culture of the school.

• Instructional Leadership: Focuses his or her own and others’ attention persistently and publicly on learning and teaching by initiating and guiding conversations about instruction and student learning that are oriented towards high expectations, concrete goals, and the magnet theme. Ensures that the school has adequate instructional and curriculum support specific to the magnet theme.

• Cultural Leadership: Systematically develops and uses shared values, beliefs and a shared vision to establish a school identity aligned with its magnet theme that emphasizes a sense of community and cooperation to guide the disciplined thought and action of all staff and students

• External Leadership Development: Garners fiscal, intellectual and human resources from the community that support the school and district's learning agenda and magnet theme of the school

Start of the School Year

• Receive and sign contract for magnet coordinator position and other magnet related duties

• Confirm role with Magnet Administrator, acknowledging meetings, role and responsibilities

• Engage with social media, document and share student and teacher projects and work related to the magnet theme

First Quarter

• Attend Magnet Coordinator meetings and trainings with Magnet and OSA Departments

• Purchase marketing materials for recruitment events

• Edit or update school brochure, coordinate translation, design and printing

• Plan for November Showcase of Schools and school tour dates and other events including recruiting and training student ambassadors

• Draft any recruiting materials to be sent for translation

• Start on MSA award applications

Second Quarter

• Attend Magnet Coordinator meetings and trainings with Magnet and OSA Departments

• Showcase of Schools early November

• Conduct tours and other recruiting events throughout November, December, and January

• MSA award applications due mid-November

January/February

• Attend Magnet Coordinator meetings and trainings with Magnet and OSA Departments

• Assist families with any lottery related questions and application processes

• Prepare for the registration of new families in early March, update forms, informational statements, and parent emails and send to translation

• Plan welcome events for new families in March

• Make arrangements if attending the MSA spring conference

• Start gathering intent information from current students

March

• Attend Magnet Coordinator meetings and trainings with Magnet and OSA Departments

• Complete the first round of lottery seating and gather data on the number of unfilled seats

Spring/Summer

• Ensure communication with OSA to continue filling any additional magnet seats until the June/July deadline

• Continue to gather data from current students, and maintain communication with new families so they feel welcome, engaged, and committed.

Throughout the School Year

• Reinforce the focus on the magnet theme through instructional coaching, PLC work, and teacher walk-throughs as well as professional development

• Support the work of teachers to integrating the magnet theme with professional development, resources, and community partnerships

• Highlight school successes and maintain positive publicity for the school including engagement on social media

• Collaborate with feeder schools to ensure curriculum alignment, recruitment opportunities and information sharing
