At Swigert, we believe there are many different ways to learn about and appreciate music. In class, students sing, play instruments, listen to, move to, and create music. Pedagogical ideas are pulled from Orff Schulwerk, Kodaly method, and Dalcroze Eurhythmics.
Arts education also plays an important role in the social-emotional development of students. Through the arts, students have new ways of accessing social-emotional competencies like perseverance, self-awareness, and empathy. We are proud to give students the opportunities to express themselves.
Each grade has units based on the different elements of music: rhythm, melody, form, texture/timbre, and harmony. Each unit usually lasts between 3 and 5 lessons.
