About the Team

Northfield High School is located at 5500 Central Park Blvd, Denver, CO. Its baseball team, the Nighthawks, play their home games at "The Nest," located at the corner of 56th Avenue and Dallas St. The Nighthawks play in the 4A/5A Denver Prep League. 

Philosophy

Northfield Baseball aims to prepare and develop our student-athletes into successful baseball players both on and off the diamond. In order to become a successful baseball player, the scholar must have a commitment towards responsibility, consistency, dedication, and hard work in the classroom and on the field. These commitments in turn, will equip our scholar-athletes to overcome future obstacles beyond baseball.

Nighthawks baseball is based around playing baseball with an acute knowledge of the game and thorough preparedness. Knowing what to do in a game before it happens is vital, in both offense and defense. We will do what it takes to win: 

• We will pitch to locations, pounding the strike zone early and often in each at bat. “On or out in 5 pitches or less.”

• We play for the big inning early in the game. 

• Hitters will hit up the middle, and hit the ball hard. A simple approach to every hitter’s timing and swing is a must, and hitters can personalize around our “Escape, Pound, Connect” model once it is mastered. Working counts early in the game forces pressure onto the starting pitcher.

• Defenders communicate before and during every pitch to ensure each part of the team plays as one collective unit – every defender has a role in every play! 

• P.O.P. on every pitch – “Position, Outs, Play.”

• We will steal bases often, and we will look to take the extra base when we can, but not recklessly. Be equally smart and aggressive. 

• All throwers, no matter what position, will use our “REACH AND PULL” model.
