Overview of the AVID Program

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) a college and career program.

"students receive the additional academic, social, and emotional support that will help them succeed in their school’s most rigorous courses." (AVID)

In AVID students are supported in reaching their goals through taking academically challenging courses, learning and refining how to advocate for themselves in and out of the classroom, and getting social and emotional supports to positively cope with life's challenges both in high school and in the future.

AVID at GWHS

Throughout the four years that students are in AVID they will participate in multiple activities to learn and practice critical thinking, thoughtful discussions, study skills, organization, reading and writing skills, as well as, interview skills, creating resumes, presentation skills, community service, coping and mindfulness, and other life skills.

Every year AVID students build and grow on their knowledge and continue to work academically toward their goals.
