Special Program of Study- Life Skills

STAGE 6 (YEAR 11 AND 12) SPECIAL PROGRAM OF STUDY – LIFE SKILLS COURSES

The Stage 6 (Year 11 and 12) Special Program of Study extends the curriculum to cater for the needs of all students. In general, the Stage 6 Special Program of Study is for students who have completed Special Program of studies in Stage 5. However, access to Stage 6 Special Program of Study can be offered to students who have attempted regular syllabuses for the RoSA and have experienced significant difficulty.

To be considered as a student eligible for the Special Program of Study in Stage 6 a transition-planning process is a condition of access to the program. This involves consultation with the student, parents, student’s subject teacher and Special Education Coordinator.

Students undertaking the Special Program of Study for the Higher School Certificate must undertake a Year 11 course pattern that includes at least 12 units of study and an HSC course pattern that includes at least 10 units of study. Both patterns must include:

  • At least six units from Board Developed courses

  • At least two units of a Board Developed course in English

  • At least three courses of two unit value, and

  • At least four subjects, one of which must include Religion.

Students who are eligible for a Special Program of Study for Stage 6 are able to complete a combination of mainstream, TAFE, VET and Life Skills courses which are “Board Developed.”

This flexibility allows for the school to develop individualised programs of study that challenge students according to their individual needs.

All students who meet the pattern of study requirements and satisfactorily complete the required studies will receive a Higher School Certificate testamur, a Record of Achievement and a Student Profile.

Life Skills courses do not require any formal exams or testing as records of achievement are based on outcomes successfully achieved by the individual student.
