Digital Games II - Advanced Projects
In their second year, students are introduced to a simulated workplace environment. They are asked to pitch projects that interest them and perform a deep dive into that field of study.
Second year students largely work independently, interacting with each other and their supervisor to overcome the obstacles they encounter as they work. As part of finding "funding" for their passion projects, they must create advertising materials that "sell" their concept.
As part of their professional development, students are required to track their progress in a shared project management tracker. We meet regularly where they provide updates about their project's successes, challenges, and roadblocks.
The students use a variety of tools, but all projects are created in a digital medium. Our entire classroom has been outfitted by grant money, specifically from the Windsong Group and a CTE Grant from the Nevada Department of Education. All of our students have access to professional quality tools, afforded by these generous grants.
"Drift" - WASD Controls Handbrake is space.
Shrek House - Find the toilet paper before Shrek Finds You!
Ball Jump
Milk Bottle Carnival Game in VR
Made in Unity utilizing Valve's VR Tools and Index VR Headset
Next steps: Adding sound effects to collisions and environment
City Modeling and Animation
Unity's built in modeling software and animator, this scene takes advantage of advanced lighting practices and Cinematic camera controls.
Pokemon Clone
Goal is to create a clone of classic pokemon game. 2d tiled freeroam world with turn based combat system.
Next steps: Resolve combat, track inventory, create save game files.
2D Platformer - Endless Runner
Hand drawn sprites imported and animated in game via Unity Sprite sheets. Working health system, multiple worlds, traps...one of the most complete games in production.
Particle Effects and Realtime Animations
An exploration of dynamic particle effects in the creation of a "victory" scene that would appear at the end of a game. Dynamic and custom fireworks, moving grass, and rain clouds.
3d Environment Modeling
3d Digital Modeling is a quickly growing field. Student is attempting to model a residential home. Next steps are to texture and light the objects, to approach photorealism.
3d Modelling
Long term goal is the creation of a fully 3d modelled and animated video game character for the game Genshin Impact. This spear would be the character's weapon. Student has already finished concept art, color palette. Textured and material remain.
2d Animation - Sous Chef
The Blender tool grease pencil allows for streamlining animations. Instead of each frame being independent, student can have Blender "solve" the movements required between two keyframes. This is the introduction to Sous Chef.
In this project, students are tasked to create a fully textured and appropriately lit interior scene of the students ideal bedroom. This project tests the students' ability to visualize, create, texture, and light 3D objects and environments. Students design and model their ideal bedroom in Blender. All assets in the scene are to be original and created by the students. Proper scaling is crucial to maintain realistic portrayal of the room and its' objects.
