Scott Conklin has come to Dolores to help the Football program rebuild and move forward in its journey in eight-man football.

With the adoption of eight-man football, athletic director, AD, John McHenry, hired two new coaches, Scott Conklin and Joseph Gonzales to take the helm as coaches.Scott Conklin football coach for 10 years and former Montezuma Cortez High School head coach.

Conklin joins new assistant coaches, Joseph Gonzales, a state patrol officer, and returning assistant coach, Josh Robson.

Bears Big Win in 3 Years

The Dolores Bears won their first football game in three years. On Friday, September 24, the Bears had travelled to Monument Valley UT to play the Cougars. The Bears 0-4 came into Monument Valley looking for their first win and accomplished that and they did it big.


On the opening kickoff, the Bears had high energy on the sideline which was present all game. On the 1st play from scrimmage the Cougars ran up the middle only to meet a swarm of Bears. They had fumbled on the first play giving it to the Bears. The Bears had a decent gain of yards on their first play, then a gashing run from William Taylor putting the Bears in the red zone. In the very next play the Bears put it into the endzone with a touchdown run from Caleb Montoya. The Cougars had a good return on the next kickoff only to have their drive stopped by an interception from the Bears’ Dylan Rantz. Although the Bears had 2 costly penalties that stalled their possession, they punched it into the endzone.


The Bears had a night on offense and defence with a many turnovers and a pick-six, they had also amassed 429 yards rushing and a plethora of Bears had scored. On the night of point after point, a total of six Bears had scored those being: Dylan Rantz, William Taylor, Zach Taylor, Caleb Montoya, Wyatt Koskie and Tyler Hamm.
