Microsoft Access: Creating Database Tables, Sample Databases


Assignment 1: Movie Table: (Movie Database) Create a database table for your favorite movies- at least 25 different movies. Save in data base as "Movies"

Fields must include:

1. Movie title

2. Genre, decide on your values (examples include drama, comedy, action, etc...)- must have at least 5 Genres- with 5 movies, at least in each.

3. Rating- at least 3 (Not Rated- is not accepted)

4. Major Actor/actress (1 only)

5. Year of Release

Possible research sites: (We will actually gather our information from databases)

Class time is not the time to preview trailers- this is not acceptable in class.

Assignment 1A (Friday March 5): Add to Genres-add 5- Fantasy, Animation, Family, War, Mystery- have at least 5 in each Genre and a new total of 35 total movies (including the previous)


Assignment 2: (Music Database) Using Microsoft Access Databases - add a music table to the database already saved in your network folder. - must have 25 total entries. You must have at least 3 in each genre.

Fields include:

  • Artist,

  • Song title

  • Genre-decide on values- at least 5,

  • album(CD) name,

  • Date of Release

  • storage at least 3 - such as phone, iPod, computer, CD, Google Drive, Pandora. YouTube

  • Music Research site

Create a database table for your favorite music- at least 25 different songs. Save in data base as "Music"

Assignment 3; Group of People

Create a database for a group of people:

They can be fictional people, famous athletes, famous authors, Presidents, Vice Presidents, Governors, Senators

Fields choices could include: Last Name, First name; birthdate, Birthplace-City, State; Look-up Wizard- of characteristics. What is important about this group of people. Example - Authors could be fiction, historical fiction, Suspense, etc.-You must have at least 5 fields, at least 1 Look Up Wizard, 25 entries.

Design this one on your own. (Standard- mastery of Access Database software)

1. Choose ->Create->Table-> Go to Design view (Do not do this in the DataSheet View)

2. Leave the Primary Key blank-

Assignment 4: Career Database Now create a database table on your own. Examples: List College you want to attend or programs that you want to attend. Research. Not sure what to research? Then choose a career in Technology to fit with the digital literacy course.

Go to your database-> Start at the design view of Access->

5. Create a Database for States:

Create a database for States- Must include the following Fields when designing (Use the Design View):

  1. Population

  2. Minimum Wage

  3. _______________

  4. _______________

  5. _______________

One field must include the Look up Wizard. Other possibilities might include topics such as largest city, Capital, professional sports (lookup wizard), colleges?, exports? industry? state flower, bird? (must have 25 entries).



6. Choose current event topic that you will be gathering information. Such as coal production, jobs in the US, US Military needs, solar power, bullying and teenage suicides, Cyberbullying, future jobs in the US, migrant workers, Syrian Refugees and where they are going.

1. In a google doc- that you will share with Mrs. Webster-

2. Facts, statistics, timelines, maps are needed. All sources must be cited- Must have at least 5 different sources.

3. Begin by researching, then coming up with a thesis

Assignment b. Create a database for a fictional business(supplies or inventory): Coffee shop, Auto Supply, office supply, etc, cannot use a movie or music rental. Fields might include supplies- be creative.

Fields choices could include: .- must have 5 fields, 25-30 entries.

Example: Running shoe/clothing store- fields: Field 1. Shoe name; Field 2. Running type- lookup wizard- marathon, sprint, midweight, light weight, trail; Field 3 colors: pink, blue, green; Field 4 – in stock, online, back ordered, close outs; Field 5- male, female, junior.


To make Pivot Tables:




Click Count Of Order ID under Totals in the field list.

Click the drop-down arrow of the Pivot Table areas list and select Data area.

Click the Add To button.

Click anywhere in the Qtr column and drag it to the row area.
