Bring Out Your Forks - And Other Problems: 4th grade students work collaboratively to 1) identify a task or problem that the Cozmo robot can complete; 2) plan and design a “story” and a “solution” to address a specific problem for an intended audience. (April DeGennaro, Fayette County Board of Education, GA)
Chatbots and ELA: 5th grade students create a chatbot that will chat from the mindset of a character in the book, The Vanishing Coin, after understanding how chatbots are created and what purpose they serve. They will also learn about a lead developer who works on chatbots. (Angie Kalthoff, ISD742, MN)
Healthy Heart Chatbot: As part of an exhibit for McWane Science Center’s Celebrate Science Exhibit Design Challenge, 5th grade students build a chatbot that will offer alternative heart healthy meal or activity choices. (Melanie Haynes, Hoover City Schools - Brock’s Gap Intermediate, AL)
Intro to AI: Building Facial Recognition Software: In this unit, 5th grade students get a better understanding of what Artificial Intelligence is (learn basic concepts about neural networks and machine learning). They engage in a guided class project (“Cap or Cup?”), and to culminate their learning, their design, test, and share a safe Facial Recognition software (using Scratch 3.0). (Ronen Cohen, International Community School, Addis ababa, Ethiopia)
Peer Mediation Chatbot Project: 5th grade students design a chatbot to provide guidance to student peer mediators who help resolve conflicts during recess. (Sam Jordan, Alaska Department of Education and Early Development, AK)
Are Squirrels and Rabbits a Garden’s Friend or Foe? Creating Interactive Models Using the AI Robot Cozmo: Students in grades 6-8 will create a model to demonstrate the flow of energy in a specific habitat utilizing the AI Robot, Cozmo. (Susan Forget, Sabin Middle School/Colorado Springs District 11, CO)
Classroom Voice Assistance: In this activity, 8th grade students answer this essential question: How can we justify voice assistants like Google Home and Amazon Alexa in the classroom to enhance learning without compromising privacy and security? (Sean Tibor, Pine Crest School, FL)
