PROTECTION OF MONUMENTS

The word “monument” derives from Latin monumntum, "memory, from monère, “remember". A monument is a real proof of important historical, cultural value.

A monument is recognited by Italian state and is made in honuor or in memory of someone or of facts.

There are two types of monuments:

  • the commemorative monuments, in memory of a historical figure or of a specific event;

  • the artistic monuments, that are a segment of architectural heritage, also called monuments, without the necessity to remember some body or something.

The article 9 the Italian Costitution estabilishes that “The monuments located in the Italian terrytory belong to anybody, are under protection of the state”.

In the case of the Monument to Alcide De Gasperi, we have a specific combinection: in this construcion, indeed, we find both the commemorative function, and contemporary work of art.
