Spark Tank: Elevator Pitch Challenge
Spark Tank: Elevator Pitch Challenge
Spark Tank: The Elevator Pitch Challenge is a dynamic class-wide brainstorming and problem-solving activity where students tackle real-world issues aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Each grade level is assigned a specific problem, and the impact on the community and environment must be researched. Through critical thinking and collaboration, students will develop a creative, practical, and feasible solution, considering its benefits and potential challenges. If their solution involves technology or product innovation, they may include visuals, sketches, or concept designs to illustrate their ideas. Spark Tank empowers students to think like innovators, entrepreneurs, and changemakers, refining their ability to communicate impactful ideas and propose solutions for a more sustainable future.
Spark Tank is a class activity. The class should be able to brainstorm for a possible solution to a real-world problem assigned to their respective grade level.
The real-world problems aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals for each grade level are as follows:
Grade 7: Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6)
Problem: Frequent water supply interruptions affect hygiene in the community.
Grade 8: Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12)
Problem: High use of single-use plastics among residents during community events.
Grade 9: Climate Action (SDG 13)
Problem: Lack of tree cover around the community contributes to higher local temperatures.
Grade 10: Life Below Water (SDG 14)
Problem: Declining fish populations due to unsustainable fishing practices near local coastal areas.
The class must research the assigned problem and its impact on the community/environment.
The class must develop a creative and feasible solution to address the problem. Consider the potential benefits and any possible drawbacks of your proposed solution.
If the class’s proposed solution involves creating a piece of technology - be it a new one or innovating an existing one - they can include photos or illustrations to show their proposed product.
The proposed solutions will be presented on the assigned schedule during the IGNITE Academic Festival. Please refer to the schedule on the Google site and note the specific time for your grade level.
Three students can serve as the official presenters during this time.
The presentation must include the following:
Introduction
Present the problem by sharing research-based information about the problem assigned to your class.
Share the project's significance by highlighting its impact on the community/environment.
Presentation of the Proposed Solution
Present the proposed solution and discuss how it addresses the problem assigned to your class.
Highlight the potential benefits and any possible drawbacks of your solution.
The judges will be given time for a question-and-answer session.
The presenters will be given 5-7 minutes for the actual presentation and another 5 minutes to answer the judges’ questions.
The presentation will be evaluated based on the following rubric:
Submit the working link of your presentation through this Google Form on or before May 21, 2025.
