Grab packs are an intervention run at DJS that happens outside timetabled maths lessons.
They are used to support children who are struggling to connect with mathematical content delivered in lessons. The idea of grab packs is to support and scaffold the understanding of maths, allowing the child to keep up with the whole class approach to maths at DJS.
The interventions follow a repetitive pattern, and are designed to build the child’s basic mathematical understanding and address misconceptions through careful use of the CPA approach. There is an expectation that the adult and child should communicate using precise mathematical language throughout.
Grab pack interventions are designed to be simple and repetitive. The intervention should always be carried out on a 1-1 basis and should take no longer than 10 minutes each session.
The packs have been carefully built to mirror both the DJS maths policy and the representations seen in the MNP books.
