Social Studies are addressed mainly through our reading curriculum. This week and last, students have been reading nonfiction narratives (both autobiography and biography) by diverse individuals to investigate how a diversity of people contribute to their community.
Additionally, students receive a weekly edition of Scholastic News for 3rd Grade. Last week, students read about how dogsledding in Denali National Park is the most efficient form of travel, and how the sled dogs are trained. This week, students are learning about how families were impacted by the 9/11 attacks through a piece on a family who lost their first responder father but are carrying on his legacy by becoming firefighters themselves.
