Protocol for Face Coverings
Regular Communication to staff, parents, families, and students on appropriate use of face coverings.
Requirements
Staff will be trained on the use of Face Coverings.
All students, staff, contractors, other service providers, or visitors or volunteers are required to wear face coverings or face shields following CDC guidelines Face Coverings.
Face coverings should be washed daily or a new covering worn daily.
While driving, bus drivers must wear a face covering or face shield unless either interferes with the driver's vision. The bus driver when actively not driving must wear a face covering or shield.
Speech Language Pathologists, Speech Language Pathology Assistants, or other adults providing articulation therapy may wear face shields so students can see the mouth, tongue, etc. When not actively teaching, a mask is preferred.
School/District nurses or other medical personnel must wear medical-grade face masks and should wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment when providing direct contact care and monitoring of staff/students displaying symptoms.
If a staff member cannot wear a face covering or face shield, districts and schools should work to limit the staff member’s proximity to students and staff to the extent possible to minimize the possible exposure.
Communication to parents, families, students on expectations for Face Coverings:
All K-12 students are required to wear face coverings or face shields following CDC guidelines Face Coverings. Masks are preferred, face shields are acceptable when a student has a medical condition that prevents them from wearing a mask or face covering, or when people need to see the student's mouth and tongue motions in order to communicate.
Face coverings should be washed daily or a new covering worn daily.
If any student requires an accommodation to meet the requirement for face coverings, districts and schools must limit the student’s proximity to students and staff to the extent possible to minimize the possibility of exposure.
For students with existing medical conditions and a physician's orders to not wear face coverings, or other health related concerns, schools/districts must not deny any in person instruction.
