English I is a year-long, foundational course designed to support students as they transition from middle school to the academic and intellectual demands of high school. Aligned with the 9th-grade English Language Arts Common Core State Standards, this course emphasizes the development of independent reading, writing, and critical thinking skills essential for high school success.  Students will explore a rich array of texts that provide diverse perspectives and examine universal themes, encouraging them to think critically and engage deeply with the material.  The course challenges students to take greater responsibility for their learning, with an emphasis on independent work, thoughtful analysis, and collaborative discussion.  Students will develop their skills in argumentative and analytical writing while building strong reading and thinking habits. English I sets the stage for success in future courses by fostering an appreciation for literature, strengthening communication skills, and preparing students for the academic rigor of high school.
