AP Literature and Composition

Course Description

This course includes an intensive study of literature from various genres (including fiction, poetry, and drama) and periods (from 1600 to present) with an emphasis on American and British Literature with some World Literature. In-depth reading, analysis, and writing are an integral part of this course. Extensive writing assignments focus on critical analysis of literature, including expository, analytical, and argumentative essays. Writing instruction focuses on developing coherence, unity, precision, structure, and stylistic maturity. Summer reading is required prior to taking this course. Students are required to take the AP Exam in May.
