Support Groups Available
What groups are available and how do they work?
If you are interested in joining a group, please see your counselor or email them for more updates!
Groups meet during the school day once a week on a rotating schedule. This means the first week group will meet 1st period; the second week group will meet 2nd period, and so on. Students attending a group will be excused from class. Students need to sign in and check with teacher regarding missed assignments. Students are expected to attend class if a test, major assignment, presentation. etc. is scheduled that day.
- Support Groups:
Alliance: A support and information group for gay, lesbian, and bisexual students, and also for those who have questions about sexual identity issues for themselves and others close to them or even allies!

Connections: For students who have experienced significant problems related to depression and/or anxiety.

Dreamers: The mission of HPHS Dreamers is to create a safe space to explore the challenges and strengths of the student immigrant community, specifically of the undocumented or DACAmented student population, in a predominantly white school environment. The group will be facilitated in English and Spanish, if language support is needed.

EL Boys Group: The group will target all male immigrant students from the English Learners (EL) program in the Entering, Developing, Emerging,and Expanding English classes. The group will also have an opportunity to share and process issues pertaining to their new student identity, their struggles and successes in their new learning environments. The group will be facilitated in Spanish.

Equinox: A co-ed African-American student leadership group to discuss student experiences within the context of their racial identity.

Evolución: The group will target transitioning English Learners (EL) female students. These students may be enrolled in one or more mainstream class(es). The group will have an opportunity to share and process issues pertaining to their new student identity, their struggles and successes in their new learning environments. The group will be facilitated in Spanish.

Inicios: The group will target newly arrived female immigrant students from the English Learners (EL) program. Incios means “beginnings” in Spanish, and the students will have an opportunity to share and process their new beginnings. The group will discuss issues of acculturation such as attending a new school structure, understanding a new culture, and learning a new language. The group will be facilitated in Spanish.

Insight: An early intervention for subustance abuse awareness through a psychoeducational lense. This group is geared towards preventitive measures.

Recovery: A second tier-sub intervention focused on students with more subustance abuse or addiction concerns, in students transitioning back frop the hospitalizations or rehabilitation programs.

Solace: The group's focus is upon family memebers or relatives with chronic medical conditions. This group also focuses on coping skills and acknowlediging the stressors of knowing someone with an illness.

Superación: The group will target Long Term English Learners (ELs). These may be students that are in their Junior or Senior year in high school, and it may include EL Tech Campus students. The focus will be on the intersectionality of post-high school planning and their EL student identity . The group will be facilitated in English, with minimal Spanish.

Freshman Transition: A group that focuses on transition to high school and skills needed for academic success and social connectedness.

Grief & Loss: A support group for those who have lost a member of their immediate family.

Latino Young Men Freshman: An All Latino young men's group for freshmen. Group focuses on successfully transitioning to 9th grade, along with various themes aimed at the success of Latino men during high school and beyond.

Latino Young Men Sophomores: An All Latino young men's group for sophomores. Group focuses on developing awareness of self and understanding of one's potential, along with various themes aimed at the success of Latino men during high school and beyond.

Latino Young Men Juniors: An All Latino young men's group for juniors. Group focuses on transitioning beyond high school and understanding of college admissions and post-secondary options, along with various themes aimed at the success of Latino men during high school and beyond.

Latino Young Men Seniors: An All Latino young men's group for seniors. Group focuses on preparing for life after high school. Lots of time is dedicated on completing college applications, understanding financial aid and exploring post-secondary options, along with various themes aimed at the success of Latino men during high school and beyond.

Latina Girls Group - Freshmen: A female Latina affinity group to discuss the transition to high school and support each other. Direct lessons to address transition and support adjusting and problem solving as things arise in one another’s lives.

Latina Girls Group - Sophomores: A female Latina affinity group to discuss the transition to high school and support each other in all of life’s situations.

Outlook : A co-ed group to discuss a variety of issues of the student’s choice.

Transitions: The group will target pregnant students and new moms. The group will discuss the stages of pregnancy, provide resources, and a safe place to discuss the emotional well-being of the students. The group is designed to follow young moms through their high school journey, while promoting positive parenting, maximizing child health and development, and setting post-secondary goals.

TPI: A group for English Learners (EL) who are non-spanish speakers. Facilitated in English

TGIF: A support and information group for students identifying as Transgender, and also for those who have questions and concerns about sexual identity issues for themselves and others close to them.
